Nick Adams - Managing Director of Libellum
As Managing Director of Libellum Nick works closely with Mark Cholmondeley to help support growth and the success of the business. After 15 years working away on projects- from Wembley Stadium to rail projects, and oil & gas sites globally - Nick found a home with Libellum where he uses his extensive experience of NDT, inspection, safety & compliance to help support daily operations, develop the business and support clients.
An Adventurer & Wanderer
Growing up Nick loved exploring the hills of his native North York Moors and being in the great outdoors. This led him to spending much of his spare time in his late teens and early 20’s in the Scottish Highlands, Lake District and further afield in the Alps, East Africa & Pyrenees. Whether it was hiking, climbing, skiing or mountain biking Nick loved the challenge and resilience needed to reach the summit, nail the next run or find the best line. It didn’t always work out as planned (and Nick has the scars to prove it!), but spending so much time in the mountains taught Nick to always be prepared for anything, to deal with crisis’s, stay calm when things didn’t go as planned, and how to push yourself beyond what you thought was possible to achieve your goals.
Nick’s love for adventure & travel led him to pursue a career in rope access. Getting a start on Wembley Stadium during construction and eventually moving into offshore rope access inspection & testing. His career offshore spanned 13 years and covered more than 20 countries. Learning skills vital to his future success, gaining in depth knowledge of oil & gas operations, and developing his people skills.
Family First
It was whilst working on a project in Trinidad that Nick met his wife, and 2 years later they became proud parents for the 1st time. After becoming a father Nick decided it was time to hang up the harness & coveralls and move into management. Securing a role as an operations manager for a major UK NDT & Inspection company on Teesside Nick took his years of experience offshore managing inspection teams and put them to use leading the successful day-to-day operations and growing the business within the region.
Two years later Nick & his wife were delighted to welcome their second son, and now Nick spends his free time focused on his family. Sharing his love of the outdoors, taking his 2 boys on walks and adventures in the North York Moors, Weardale and Northumberland, or visiting his parents’ small holding near Robin Hoods Bay.
Sales Assistant to MD
Nick’s career has not been a straight line. Starting in retail as a sales assistant before moving into retail management. But in his heart, he knew he wanted more and wanted to travel. Through his passion for rock climbing Nick started a career in industrial rope access, which eventually led him offshore.
The bulk of his career has been spent in Oil & Gas, traveling to numerous countries around the world carrying out testing, inspection and compliance work for drilling contractors, operators and service providers -working with some of the biggest companies within Oil & Gas along the way.
Moving into operations management Nick applied his people skills and team leadership he developed whilst running projects offshore. Understanding both the challenges faced by his team, and the demands of the clients helped Nick thrive and grow, taking opportunities to enhance his knowledge through additional training including the NEBOSH National General Certificate, ISO9001 Internal Auditor & IOSH Managing Occupational Health & Wellbeing.
Moving on from operations management, Nick spent 2 years working as a Business Development Manager, learning even more about contracts, business operations, marketing, risk management, sales forecasting and building client relationships. But he didn’t feel at home working for a large corporation. So, when the opportunity to join Mark & Libellum came up Nick jumped in wholeheartedly.
Starting as Business Development Director, before progressing into the Managing Director role Nick has applied his diverse experience and skill set into supporting Mark with growing Libellum, implementing new policies & practices and helped grow Libellum’s client base across Teesside and further afield.
Helping to run a small business can be challenging, wearing many hats (often at the same time!), pushing yourself outside your comfort zone, and always expecting the unexpected. But it is working alongside Mark, and the whole Libellum team, that Nick feels he’s finally found his home. No 2 days are the same, each new challenge is an opportunity to grow and learn, and at the end of each day Nick picks his boys up from school proud that he’s making a difference.
